Impact
Some of the impact Debate Mate has observed based the development and delivery of our Core Programme:
Students become more engaged with, and understand the value of, learning.
Schools reporting a substantial positive impact on the culture of the school.
A reduction in truancy, anti-social behaviour, and involvement in ‘gang’ culture.
Disadvantaged young people acquiring the skills needed for employment.
Greater acceptance of and respect for others.
The adoption of debating skills-learning in UK state schools.

Social Impact
Developing debating skills is a very effective method of preparing and motivating young people for higher education and the world of work. Many young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have hidden talents that require innovative programmes to enable them to unlock their true potential, and break out of the poverty spiral perpetuated by circumstance of birth or environment.
In 2007, we realised that the solution to providing increased life chances in the real world is a simple balance of opportunity for education, combined with skills development.
We have seen Debate Mate students win national championships, scholarships to Eton, places at Oxbridge, and in 2016 be part of the winning England team at the World Schools Debating Championship.
