Saturday 5th March 2022 | 8:30am – 6:00pm
Registration for our BP format competition, Debate Mate Schools, has now opened. The competition will be taking place virtually on an innovative and exciting new platform, Gather.
The format is British Parliamentary, a debating format used around the world for debating competitions. Schools from across the country and even internationally will be joining for the competition.
The tournament will consist of four rounds of British Parliamentary debating, concluding with both a Novice Final and an Open Final. Any proceeds from the competition will be used to fund our charitable activities.
While we are committed to delivering a competitive and world-class debating competition, Debate Mate Schools will hold true to the founding principles of Debate Mate by providing opportunities for our students to learn how a tournament is run. To that end, like our past DM Schools competitions, our Graduate School students will be helping to tab, running logistics, joining judging panels and one of them will be joining the Chief Adjudication team as an Deputy Chief Adjudicator. This commitment to involving students in the running of the competition delivers one of the most student-focused schools tournaments on the circuit.
Schools can have up to 4 teams – schools that are on our Core Programme get up two teams for free, with 3 teams costing £30 and 4 teams costing £50 in total respectively.
Our Convenor for the competition will be Eve Colyer, Programme Director for Debate Mate. If you have any questions about the format, or about the platform being used, Eve will be more than happy to arrange a time to speak with you and clarify any questions or details.
